2025-2026 IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter
If you did NOT file a 2023 federal tax return, and under IRS or other relevant tax authority rules,
are not required to file a 2023 income tax return, please provide:
- A signed and dated statement certifying:
- That the individual is not required to file a 2023 income tax return; and
- The sources and amounts of earnings, other income, and resources that supported the individual(s) for the tax year 2023
- For individuals without a Social Security number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), or Employer Identification Number (EIN), a signed an dated statement that the individual does not have a SSN, ITIN, or EIN
- A copy of IRS Form W-2 or equivalent documents for each source of employment income received during 2023
For a nontax filer who would file a tax return with a tax authority other than the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS), please provide a Verification of Non-Filing from the relevant tax
authority. This is required of both parents of dependent students, independent students, and/or a
spouse nontax filer.
