Why study ESSS at a liberal arts college?

Studying ESSS at a liberal arts school is important because the classes are not solely about sports. The classes take real life issues and real life aspects of learning and put a sport twist onto them. Having previous sports knowledge is helpful but not necessary, and both groups exit with a greater appreciation of the multiple aspects of sports.

What makes the ESSS minor at CSB/SJU unique?

As I mentioned previously, the classes are not solely focused on sports. Even if you are an avid sports fan, former athlete, or current athlete you can learn a great deal more. Most of the classes are two credits, and to get to the required 24 you have to take a very wide variety of classes, which allows you to explore many realms of the sports world.

What has your experience with the CSB/SJU ESSS faculty been like?

The ESSS faculty have been great in my four years at CSB/SJU. They have helped me through all of my classes and helped set me up for my future endeavors.

What has been one of the greatest challenges you have faced?

Probably trying to expand my personal thoughts about sports. I have been an avid sports fan my whole life, so going into the minor I had a lot of previous knowledge, but trying to think about certain aspects differently was challenging. However, it has made me a better person and a more knowledgeable sports fan and athlete.

What advice do you have for students considering minoring in ESSS?

I would 100 percent recommend minoring in ESSS. Whether you love sports or do not know anything and want to learn more, there is something in the minor for everyone. This minor truly gives you a better appreciation of athletics and sports.

How do you anticipate using your degree after graduation?

My dream is to work in the NFL, but if that does not happen I would like to do something that deals with sports. I love sports, and want to do something that I am passionate about for the rest of my life. Sports are filled with amazing life lessons, and hopefully they can continue to do that for me.
