Where do you call home?

Mililani, Hawaii/ JBER, Alaska

What are you majors/minors?

Major: Environmental Studies Minor: Biology

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Camping and canoeing!

Why did you decide to major in Environmental Studies?

I took an AP Environmental Science class in high school and that made me realize the effects of what we are doing to the earth and to the climate. I wanted to help be part of the solution and I believe that the Environmental Studies major enables me to do that. In addition to that, having the arboretum on campus is perfect for ES since we can have class in an outside setting or do research right on campus.

What environmental issue are you most passionate about?

I am really passionate about the warming of the oceans. During my childhood, I noticed that coral reefs were losing more and more color each year, and I eventually learned that it is coral bleaching caused by climate change. I want to have the reefs to return to the health they were at before climate change since they are necessary for ocean health and so future generations can admire their beauty.

What is your favorite Environmental Studies class and why?

My favorite class was ENVR 275 (Humans and the Environment) because it taught me a lot of practical knowledge that I could apply to a future career. The labs were also very hands on, whether it was building houses or in the arboretum listening to frogs during a night lab.

What are you looking forward to as an Environmental Studies student?

I am looking forward to taking the upper level ES classes so I can learn more about topics I really care about. I am also looking forward to applying what I have learned in ES classes into internships and future career opportunities.
