Selection of Cooperating Teachers
Cooperating teachers are selected jointly by the school district and the cooperating college, from teachers who are interested and willing to work with a student teacher. The minimum criteria, as suggested by the Minnesota Board of Teaching, are the basis for this selection. They include the following:
- At least three years of successful experience at the appropriate level or in subjects to which the student teacher is to be assigned.
- The cooperating teacher must hold continuing Minnesota teacher licensure, based upon a bachelor's degree, for the grade levels or subjects to which the student teacher will be assigned.
- The cooperating teacher must have the ability and desire to work harmoniously and constructively with a college student.
- Reasonable agreement with the teacher education philosophy and goals of the college attended by the student teacher.
