Many opportunities for professional training of science teachers. Students can pursue an invidiual licensure area or enhance their repertoire by combining two licensure areas to teach science in grades 5-12 with a Natural Science major and Secondary Education minor. All science education programs include both foundational coursework as well as a student teaching experience.
What You'll Gain
At the completion of this program, students will have accomplished:
- 100+ hours of field experiences
- An additional 600 hours during 16 weeks of student teaching
- A program approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
- Opportunities for leadership through partnerships between CSB/SJU and local school(s) during Discover Your Future, exposure to robotics and 3-D printing

For students pursuing a Minnesota teaching in Science Education, Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations are also required. Students must complete the following exams:
For grades 9-12 Chemistry Education:
For grades 9-12 Life Science Education:
For grades 9-12 Physics Education:
For grades 5-12 Natural Science Education:
- Pedagogy: Secondary
- Content: Teacher candidates will take one of the content exams above according to their licensure track in the Natural Science major.
- Teacher candidates pursuing 5-12 licensure will also need to complete Middle Level Science, grades 5-8

Teacher candidates are reminded of MTLEs prior to student teaching and receive instructions on the application to their license near the completion of their student teaching experience. It is recommended that teacher candidates complete the MTLEs for their applicable license just prior to student teaching. Spring student teachers should be especially proactive in registering early for these examinations.
