Section 1: SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club  

Section 2: Purpose/Mission  

The purpose of the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club is:

A. To promote physical, mental and, social fitness

B. To build leadership, initiative, and teamwork amongst the members

C. To promote the sport of ultimate in a competitive and sportsman like manner

Article II: Membership

Section 1: Eligibility for Membership  

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club shall be open to any SJU student willing to compete in ultimate. Only SJU students may be active participants in this club. Only those who are full members may be able to vote for club officers and activities.

Section 2: Voting Member Criteria  

SJU Students may become voting members in the Ultimate Frisbee Club if they attend 75% of meetings and practices throughout the whole year. They may also become voting members if 2/3 of the current voting members judge that their opinion and impute is valid and warrants voting member status.

Section 3: Removal of Members  

To remove a member from the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club, 2/3 of the other members, including the club president, must vote to do so. The member in question will receive an email informing them of their removal. They will have 2 weeks to submit a request for review. If done, the members of the club will meet with the person in question and discuss the reason(s) for their removal. After the meeting, if ½ the persons in attendance vote to keep the person removed, then they will stay removed and will no longer be allowed to be active in the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club.

Article III: Officers

Section 1: Officer Qualifications  

All officers of the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club must be current SJU students. They must be deemed qualified for their position by a majority of the current members. In the case of a tie between two candidates for office, the current club president will cast the deciding vote.  

Section 2: Elected Officers  

The following are officer positions for the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club: 

 President/ Team captain will be the contact for the CFB and JCB

Vice-President/ Team captain

Secretary

Treasurer

Section 3: Duties of Officers  

All officers will be members for the academic school year. They may be elected as many times as they wish as long as they are still current SJU students.  

President: preside at meetings, call special meetings, primary contact with the institutions, appoint committee chairs, run the election process.

Vice-President: assume president’s duties in his absence, schedule meeting/practice rooms/facilities, plan member/officer training programs.

Secretary: take and distribute minutes of all club meetings, keep records (current and past members, file minutes, etc), notify members of meetings, handle the official correspondence of the club.

Treasurer: keep all financial records, submit monthly audit statements to CFB contact, notify organization of financial issues, prepare budget/allocation requests.

Section 4: Vacancy in Office  

In the event a vacancy should occur (resignation or removal), officer succession/"chain of command" will be followed (e.g., in the event that the president leaves office, the vice president will assume those duties until a special election is held.) Then refer readers to the special election section of Article IV.

Section 5: Removal of Officers

Grounds for removal of an officer must be clearly identified. Similar to the removal of members, due process must be followed (see above). Make sure you note the role of your club .

One example:

A petition to remove the officer in question must be submitted to another officer. This petition must contain the signatures of 2/3 of voting members. When such petition is received, the officer shall call a meeting of the club to determine whether or not the officer should be removed.

Grounds for removal are to be presented by the officer in charge at a regular or special club meeting.

The officer in question shall be provided an opportunity to present a defense either in person or in writing.

A quorum shall be present, and a 2/3 vote of the voting members shall decide upon removal.

Section 6: Appeal of Removal of Officers

To appeal the removal from office, an officer will have 2 weeks to submit a request for review. If done, the members of the club will meet with the officer in question and discuss the reason(s) for their removal. After the meeting if ½ the persons in attendance vote to keep the officer removed they will stay removed and will no longer be allowed to be an officer for the CSB/SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club.

Article IV: Elections

Section 1: Nomination Process

A member of the Ultimate Frisbee Club may be nominated to be an officer if he nominates himself. This must be done at the end of the year when the official end of the year meeting takes place.

Section 2: Election

The elections of officers will be held at the end of every school year for the next year. (i.e. the elections for 2008-2009 will be held at the end of the 2007-2008 school year). The elections will be done at a club meeting held by the president. In order to hold elections 2/3 of the club members must be present in order to vote. A secret ballet will be held and counted at the meeting to elect the new officers. The new officers will be announced at the meeting and will become active officers at the end of the current school year.

Section 3: Special Elections

If an officer is removed from office, the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club will hold an emergency election that day and elect a new officer that day. If no member can be elected the club president will either name the new officer or will take on the duties of the officer until one can be found. The election process will be similar to hose (the process) outlined in Section 2.

Article V: Advisor

Section 1: Selection

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club will choose at the discretion of the president. The president will choose an adviser based on what the club needs that year to run the smoothest.

Section 2: Duties

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club would like it’s to challenge group members/officers to think creatively, and to promote group activities to other faculty/staff .

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1: Regular Meeting/Club Activities

Team practices or meetings will happen at least once a week. Notification of the meetings/practices will be given out over email by the captain from the SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club’s email account.

Section 2: Special Meetings

No special meetings will be called unless deemed necessary by the president. These meetings will then be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Section 3: Parliamentary Authority

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club will use Robert’s Rules of Order at its meetings.

Section 4: Quorum*

2/3 of the club must be present in order for official club business to occur. No club business may transgress without the presence of the president.

Article VII: Committees

Section 1: Committee Structure

Committees will be decided and organized by the president when they are needed. The structure and members of the committee will be under the discretion of the president. These members may be changed by a 2/3 vote of the active members of the club.

Section 2: Special/Ad-Hoc Committees

Special/ad-hoc committees may be formed if needed.

Article VIII: Finances

Section 1: Funding

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club will receive funding from the SJU Senate.

Section 2: Honorariums

No honorariums will be given unless decided by 2/3 of the actives. These cases will be met on a case by case basis.

Section 3: Dues (optional)

Members are required to pay UPA dues so that they may participate in the UPA series. These dues change from year to year.

Article IX: Amendments

Section 1: Ratification

The constitution may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of active members.

Section 2: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board

Any changes made to this constitution must be submitted to the Department of Student Activities and the JCB.

Article X:

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.

Article XI:

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.

Article XII

The SJU Ultimate Frisbee Club

agrees that its activities, mission statement an goals are consistent with the Benedictine Values.
