SJU Spikeball Constitution

 Article I: Name and Purpose

Section 1: The name of this club shall be Saint John’s University Spikeball Club

Section 2: To build a stronger, tighter knit community by connecting active CSB/SJU students through a fun outdoor activity.

Section 3: No affiliations.

Article II: Membership

Section 1: Must be a full or part time student at SJU.

Section 2: To be a voting member one must be present at a minimum of 50% of club meetings.

Section 3: If a member acts disrespectfully, aggressively, or causes damage to school or club property, they will be given a verbal warning by a club officer. If the member continues these actions the officers will hold a vote to decide whether or not the member will be allowed to stay in the club. Majority vote will decide.

Article III: Officers

Section 1: Officer Qualifications

All officers must be current SJU students that are active members of the club. Officers must have participated in 80% of club activities. See Article IV for Election procedures.

Section 3: Duties of Officers

President: preside at meetings, call special meetings, primary contact with the institutions, appoint committee chairs, runs the election process, schedule meeting/practice rooms/facilities

Vice-President: assume President’s duties in his/her absence, schedule meeting/practice rooms/facilities, primary contact with the JCB, plans member/officer training programs

Chair: Comes up with events and activities for the club and oversees club activities.

Board members: Aid the chair in responsibilities. Appoint new board members and chair by vote.

Secretary/Treasurer: takes and distributes minutes of all club meetings, recorder keeper (current and past members, files minutes, etc), club historian, handles the official correspondence of the club, keeps all financial records, submits monthly audit statements to CFB contact, notifies organization of financial issues, prepares budget/allocation requests,

Section 4: Vacancy in Office

If a vacancy should occur the vice president shall take over responsibility of the president.

Section 5: Removal of Officers

If an officer acts disrespectfully, overly aggressive, or intentionally damages school or club property, the other officers will hold a meeting with the club advisor to determine what the best course of action should be.

If 75% of the club members sign a petition to remove an officer there will be an officer meeting. There must be a unanimous vote to remove the officer

Article IV: Elections

Section 1: Nomination Process

Officer candidates will be nominated by current officers. Officers must nominate at least one member.

Section 2: Election

There will be a vote among members. The board members’ final vote counts for 30% of votes all votes, which is allocated to one candidate.

Section 3: Special Elections

If an officer position is vacant there will be an election within 1 week of the vacancy using the process outlined in Section 2.

Article V: Advisor

Section 1: Selection

The advisor will be selected with officer referral.

Section 2: Duties

Advise the officers when requested.

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1: Regular Meeting/Club Activities

Spikeball gatherings will take place once a week.

Section 2: Special Meetings

A special meeting will be held in the case of a special event and all members will be promptly notified.

Article VII: Committees

Section 1: Committee Structure

There are no current committees, but can be added when needed.

Section 2: Special/Ad-Hoc Committees

Special/ad-hoc committees may be formed if needed.

Article VII: Amendments

Section 1: Ratification

Done through the same process as outlined in the election process,

Section 2: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board

Any changes made to this constitution must be submitted to the Department of Student Activities and the JCB.

Article IX

The SJU Spikeball Club agrees that its activities, mission statement and goals are consistent with the Benedictine Values.

Article X:

The SJU Spikeball Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.

Article XI:

The SJU Spikeball Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The SJU Spikeball Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
