Summer Housing

CSB students living on the St. Ben’s campus for the summer reside in the Centennial Commons Apartments. SJU students living on the St. Ben’s campus for the summer reside in either the Zierden or McDonald Apartments*.

*The apartment designation for SJU students will alternate each year between Zierden and McDonald.

A limited amount of temporary housing is available for CSB students in Dominica until June 1st. Students utilize temporary housing for a variety of reasons including short summer courses, completion of student teaching requirements, athletics, accommodation of travel plans, or preparation for the NCLEX exam.

Centennial Apartments are four-person, four bedroom apartments. Zierden Apartments are four-person, two-bedroom and McDonald Apartments are six-person, three-bedroom apartments. No single apartments, single rooms or apartments with single bedrooms are available for SJU students residing at CSB. 

All available spaces will be filled in each apartment. Single applicants may be assigned any open housing spaces.​

Who is eligible for CSB summer housing?

Current CSB students can live on the CSB campus if they meet these requirements:​

  • ​Summer residents must be registered for the upcoming fall classes.  
  • Employed on the CSB/SJU campus (20 hours per week minimum). The Student Employment Office will verify employment.

AND/OR

  • Taking summer classes at CSB/SJU. Class registration will be verified through the Registrar's Office.

CSB students who are taking classes at SCSU, working off-campus or who are looking for housing for only part of the summer will be offered summer housing on a first come first served basis after those who meet first priority guidelines. Applicants who are staying the whole summer have priority over those staying for only a portion of the summer. All students requesting to live on campus must be registered for the upcoming fall classes.

Applicants who have documented serious disciplinary/conduct issues may not be approved to live on campus this summer.

Current SJU students can live on the CSB campus if they meet  of these requirements:​

  • Taking summer classes at CSB. Class registration will be verified through the Registrar's Office.

What are the dates of CSB summer housing?

CSB Summer Housing for 2019 begins on Wednesday, May 13th and ends on Saturday, August 8th. Applicants who are staying the whole summer have priority during selection over those staying for only a portion of the summer**. Students applying to live on campus during a portion of the summer will be offered summer housing on a first come first served basis after full summer applicants select.

**Students requesting to cancel or change the dates of their summer housing contract after May 3rd may not be accommodated or may be charged an early termination fee equal to one weeks rent.

Those students who select to move into summer housing and begin their contract after May 13th will need to check out and depart campus no later than 6:00 pm, Friday, May 8th.

What does CSB summer housing cost?

The rate for summer housing at CSB will be determined in March (2019 rate was $14.00 per day) for the Centennial, Zierden and McDonald Apartments. Temporary housing in Dominica is generally lower than the regulaur summer rate. The fee for Temporary Housing is waived if you are on campus to complete your academic requirements (such as student teaching or for NCLEX).​

Summer and temporary rent will be assessed in June based upon the dates of your summer housing agreement. All payments should be sent to the CSB Student Accounts office.

Cancellation of summer housing or adjustment of summer housing arrival/departure dates after May 3rd may result in an administrative fee equal to one week’s rent. CSB Residential Life may not be able to accommodate adjustments to summer housing dates. 

When do I move IN to CSB summer housing?

Current CSB students:

All CSB students will move from spring housing to summer or temporary housing on Wednesday, May 13th between 8:00am and 6:00pm. Students must move on this designated day! Please contact the CSB Residential Life office if you have questions or concerns regarding this timeline. Students who select to begin their contract after May 13th will need to check out and depart campus no later than 6:00 pm, Friday, May 8th.

Every CSB student must complete a checkout with their RA or CA by the final day of checkouts (Friday, May 8, 2020). Failure to do so will result in a $50.00 improper check out fee. Students will be allowed to remain in their rooms or apartments until they can move to summer or temporary housing on May 15th. In order for your RA or CA to accurately checkout your room or apartment, please pack all of your belongings and move them to a concise pile. 

All academic year keys must be turned in by 8:00am on Thursday, May 14, 2020 to avoid re-keying fees of $40.00 per room/apartment key. A summer room key will be issued to you on the day of summer move-in.

Current SJU students:

All SJU students will move from spring housing at SJU to summer housing at CSB on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 between 8:00am and 6:00pm. SJU students must complete a checkout from their spring housing and complete a late stay request according to SJU Residential Life policies. SJU students living on the CSB campus for the summer should contact SJU Residential Life regarding check out and late stay policies.

As general summer housing begins on Wednesday, May 13th, those students who select to move into summer housing and begin their contract after May 13th will need to check out and depart campus no later than 6:00 pm, Friday, May 8th.

When do I move OUT of CSB summer housing?

Current CSB students:

CSB summer housing ends at 10.00 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2020. All CSB students who will be living on campus during fall semester of the 20202021 academic year will move to their fall housing at this time. CSB students living off campus or going abroad for the fall semester will need to arrange for off campus housing after Saturday, August 8, 2020.

All summer to fall moves must be completed by 10:00pm on Saturday, August 8th so plan your work schedules and travels early and make arrangements to move out on this weekend. If you plan to be gone during this period you may need to move off campus completely and move back into your fall housing when you return. Please plan accordingly! 

All summer apartment keys must be turned in to the Residential Life office by 8:00am on Sunday, August 9, 2020. Summer residents will be assessed fees for any keys not returned by that deadline. Key fees are $40.00 per apartment key.​

Current SJU students:​

Can I choose my CSB summer roommate?

The CSB summer housing application includes a place for applicants to list the names of people they would like to room with. People wishing to select summer housing as a group must all request to live with each other. Each summer housing resident must fill out an application. Those looking for a summer roommate will be able to search through a list of summer housing applicants who are also searching for a roommate.

Applicants can select housing as living groups or individually. You do not need to have a completely full apartment in order to select. However, all available spaces will be filled in each apartment. Single applicants may select or be assigned any open housing spaces.

Students staying on campus are required to follow all CSB Residential Life policies and CSB/SJU campus policies as outlined in the CSB Residential Handbook, the Bennie Book and the J-Book.

What services are available to me in the summer?

CSB Residential Life employs two summer CAs who live in summer housing and work both in the Residential Life office and in the apartments. These CAs are available to help summer residents with the move-in and move-out process, to answer questions and to organize events for the students living on campus in the summer.

Other CSB campus services such as the Library, Fitness Center and Gorecki Dining are open with limited summer hours.

How do I apply for CSB summer housing?

The application for CSB Summer Housing will open April 1st. To apply for CSB Summer Housing log into the CSB/SJU Housing Portal.

The priority application deadline for CSB Summer Housing is Sunday, April 19, 2020.

Those applicants who do not meet the priority deadline may apply for remaining housing on a first come, first served basis after Summer Room Selection takes place. Space is limited so please apply early!
