Break Information

All CSB Residence Halls close during break periods as outlined in the Campus Housing Agreement, Campus Apartments do not close. We hope that you will take these opportunities during the year to travel, go home or to visit friends or relatives away from campus during break periods. If you have friends who are from out of state or who are international students, we encourage you to extend an invitation to travel or come home with you during breaks.  Please remember, during break periods the halls are closed and campus services are very limited.  Access to food service is limited or not available at times during breaks and other amenities are not available as well.


Staying on Campus During a Break

All CSB Residence Halls close during break periods as outlined in the Campus Housing Agreement, Campus Apartments do not close. During this time, campus services will be extremely limited, including food service and transportation ( the Link). Meal Plans may have restrictions during break periods. Please consult the  Culinary Services  website for information regarding your meal plan during these breaks. These services also include the   LibraryCampus Recreation, and the  Bookstore. Please consult their websites for any additional information on hours and services during the breaks.

Whether students live in a resdience hall or a campus apartment, all students  must request permission to remain in their residence if they wish to remain on campus during any portion of the break.  This includes ALL international students and out of state students.  These students, along with those who also have requests due to special accommodations will have to submit a  request form  found on the housing portal. Residents must have approval from Residential Life to remain on campus during any part of the official break. The College of Saint Benedict reserves the right to deny any resident permission to remain in their housing during the break. All policies must be followed or the privilege of staying on campus during the semester break may be revoked.

To request permission to remain on campus over the break period you must be:

  • Participating in intercollegiate athletics
  • Working on campus during the break period
  • An international student or your permanent residence is more than 4 hours by car
  • Have special accommodations that need to be reviewed
  • Live in a campus owned apartment
*Please note that the  entire College of Saint Benedict campus will be closed on December 23 -January 2 .  All campus offices and departments will be closed and ID access will be turned off for all residents, faculty and staff. Heat will be turned down across campus to 55, lighting will be turned down, and services will not be available. Mail will not be delivered and vendors will not have access to campus. Campus Security will be on duty in the event of an emergency. We ask that unless circumstances truly prevent you from doing so that you make plans to be away from campus during this period of time.

Thanksgiving Break

November 23 (8 p.m.) - November 28 (9 a.m.)

Semester Break

December 18 (8 p.m.) - January 9, 2022 (9 a.m.)

Spring Break

March 4 (8 p.m.) - March 13, 2022 (9 a.m.)

Easter Break

April 14 (8 p.m.) - April 18, 2022  (9 a.m.)

Summer Break

May 5, 2022 (6 p.m.)

End of Semester

Students are required to check out of their residence halls, campus house or apartment within 24 hours of their last final (or last due date for final projects). We ask that students who are finished with their academic work leave so as to allow the remaining students, still studying for finals and students on final projects the best environment possible to complete their work.

We ask that students who are finished with their academic work leave so as to allow the remaining students, still studying for finals and students on final projects the best environment possible to complete their work. All campus residence areas (apartments, houses and residence halls) close at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5th. Students who are graduating on Saturday, May 15th and those moving to summer housing will be permitted to remain past this time provided they complete the required late stay request.
