Letters from Home: Jen Kocourek ’92

Letters from HomeDear Bennies,

Life after graduation. You have been on a path since pre-school and now there is no scripted 4-year plan, no Christmas break, no more living next door to your friends. Transition can be a scary time, or it can be an amazing adventure. That is for you to choose.

I thought I would share a few things that I have learned since graduating from Saint Ben’s:

  • Surround yourself with good people and take turns celebrating each other.
  • Be a life-long learner. Paint, cook, travel, read!
  • Save for a rainy day.
  • Mentorship is so important for women. Take advantage of the Bennie Mentor program. I have met some amazing Bennies via this program!
  • Prayer is a powerful tool during good and tough times.
  • Most dream jobs take years to find. In the meantime, enjoy the journey, work hard, build trust and stay focused.
  • Everyone is on a different path and you are right where you are supposed to be.
  • There are no “ordinary Bennies.” EVERY ONE OF YOU has a great story to tell.
  • Every so often, make sure to unplug for a while and breathe.
  • Use Moisturizer every day. You will thank me in 20-30 years.
  • Volunteer, donate and give back – it feels good!
  • Spontaneous dance parties are great stress relievers.
  • Focus on your blessings.
  • Never miss a CSB/SJU Class Reunion. They are truly the happiest place on earth.
  • And always remember to shine your light!

Proud of you Bennies! You will accomplish great things!
