May 11: Message about Campus Events at CSB

Dear CSB Community,

I hope you and your families are healthy and well. Amid this pandemic, I am inspired by the compassion and resiliency our community is demonstrating. Thank you for the extra care and efforts you put forth as we navigate this uncertain time.

Since the Governor of Minnesota extended the Stay at Home Order to May 18, we continue to assess when we can safely resume campus events and bring employees back to campus. With our continued focus on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all community members, we have determined that no events will be held on campus through July 2020. This includes fine arts programming, athletic camps, student events, weddings, etc. In addition, there will be no student and overnight event housing on campus through August 2020. As mentioned in previous communications, summer internships, undergraduate research and fellowships that were scheduled this summer must be completed remotely and be approved by supervisors and/or faculty.

While this was a difficult decision, we believe this approach best supports our efforts to focus on preparing for students to return to campus this fall and to support the health of our campus and wider community. This preparation includes:

  • Limiting the number of people on campus to maintain proper cleaning and disinfecting of all buildings and common areas
  • Encouraging all employees who can complete their work from home to do so until further notice
  • Crafting return to work guidelines, which are forthcoming

Our Admission office will be offering individual families the opportunity to sign up for campus tours. The tours will be by appointment only and limited in number. We will not host any large scale admission events in June or July.

Summer student employees

Student employees who can complete their work from home, and who obtain approval from their supervisor, may continue to work this summer. Please limit the time student employees are on campus for training and specific job functions and ensure that a majority of their work is completed from home. If you intend to have student employees on campus this summer, please contact CSB Security with date, timeframe and location for their work. No student employees will be housed on campus this summer so that the campus can be prepared for a fall opening.

With the extension of Minnesota’s stay at home order and the current ban on commencement ceremonies, we continue to explore a date for an in-person commencement ceremony celebrating the class of 2020. The changing orders by the state require that we continue to discern what might be feasible for an in-person gathering. Thank you for your patience and continued support as we observe the restrictions and work with government agencies to understand timing and details of future orders.

With gratitude

As I watched students and their families celebrate commencement from afar this past weekend, I remain in awe of the resilience, passion and hope-filled actions of the entire CSB community. We are growing stronger in community every day. We continue to prioritize students at the center of our mission. I appreciate each of you and hold you in my thoughts and prayers.
