March 20: Online Learning Extended
Dear CSB/SJU students, faculty, staff and parents,
As the COVID-19 situation continually evolves, we want to provide you an update about college and university operations. CSB and SJU leadership teams are making real-time decisions that we know have widespread effects on our lives. At the forefront of our decision-making is our commitment to the wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and families. The situation is changing rapidly, and we want to prepare our campuses for the next phases of planning and response.
As planned, CSB/SJU will begin to hold classes online on Monday, March 23. Recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Minnesota Department of Health and the State of Emergency declaration by Governor Walz suggested, or required, foregoing group gatherings of more than 50 people for at least the next eight weeks. Additionally, they recommend social distancing of six feet or more in groups of all sizes. With these guidelines in mind, we will extend online instruction to the end of the semester. In-person instruction and all campus activities and events are canceled for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester.
This was a difficult decision, as we had hoped to bring our community back together in person after April 14. However, it has become clear that, despite our plans and hopes, returning after April 14 is no longer possible.
Additional information regarding on-campus housing (access, vacating rooms, storage, etc.) will be provided in a separate email.
We recognize CDC and Minnesota Department of Health guidance of eight weeks of "social distancing " will affect commencement. We understand how special and important commencement ceremonies are to our Bennie and Johnnie community. We are working intently to find opportunities for all of us to gather to celebrate commencement.
We are grateful for every member of the CSB/SJU community, and we are confident that we will emerge from this crisis as a stronger community. You remain in our thoughts and prayers, and we thank you for your continued support for one another.
