March 10 Message to Parents

Dear CSB/SJU Parents,

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University (CSB/SJU) continue to monitor developments related to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). As the situation continues to evolve rapidly, the safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority. A team of CSB/SJU staff meet regularly to monitor and follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health.

As your student returned to campus this week from spring break, it is important to emphasize that there is no immediate threat to our community. No members of the CSB/SJU communities have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Three cases have been confirmed in Minnesota at this time.

CSB/SJU is preparing for a variety of actions that could be taken. At this time, drastic responses to the outbreak are not recommended for institutions in Minnesota. However, Residential Life staff is prepared to take appropriate steps to isolate infected students. We also are taking steps to provide housing for students who are unable to leave campus, either because their home is in a Level 3 area or for some other reason.

CSB/SJU facilities staff have implemented extra measures to clean and disinfect surfaces in public areas that are touched frequently. This includes surfaces such as door handles, banisters, and elevator buttons.

CSB/SJU continues to maintain normal operations, and there are no restrictions on campus events at this time.

This is an evolving situation and we will continue to update parents as additional guidance becomes available from the CDC. You can get updates from
