COVID-19

January 3: Temporary Masking Requirement, Testing and Booster Shots

Dear CSB/SJU Students, Employees and Parents:

Happy New Year! With spring semester starting on Jan. 10, the Pandemic Planning Committee has reviewed the current COVID-19 information, and we are providing an update to CSB/SJU’s masking policy. This message also provides information about our required post-arrival testing event, booster shot requirement and vaccine clinic.

Testing Status

Pre-Arrival Testing Strongly Encouraged

Out of an abundance of caution, CSB/SJU is strongly encouraging students to provide a negative test prior to the first day of classes on Jan. 10. Students are asked to locate/obtain their own test and submit their results via our online form. Testing information can be found on the MDH website.

Post-Arrival Testing Event Required

We will be holding a required post-arrival testing event for students from Jan. 11-14. This testing event is an added mitigation strategy to ensure we keep our COVID infection rates low on campus by detecting and isolating any new COVID-19 cases early. Students, watch your email in the coming days for a link to sign up for testing.

Students exempt from this testing requirement include:

  • Students who received a COVID booster and have uploaded documentation to CSB/SJU.
  • Students who tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days (after Oct. 12, 2021).
  • Students who are within six months of their initial vaccine series for Moderna or Pfizer and two months for J&J single vaccine.

Booster Shot Requirement and Vaccine Clinic

The recent emergence of the Omicron variant further emphasizes the importance of vaccination, boosters, and prevention efforts needed to protect against COVID-19. MDH and CDC now recommend that all qualified individuals should get a vaccine booster shot. Given this recommendation, as of March 1, CSB/SJU is requiring COVID-19 vaccine booster shots for all eligible students and employees.

Those ages 16 and older qualify for a booster shot if you are six months past your second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months past your one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Please submit your vaccine record at: COVID Vaccination Record Submission. If individuals reach booster shot eligibility after March 1, they will have one month to comply with the booster requirement.

Individuals with an existing COVID vaccine exemption form on file will not be required to fill out an additional exemption form. Individuals who choose not to receive the booster may complete and file an exemption form with the institutions at: COVID Exemption Record Submission.

CSB/SJU is partnering with Walmart to bring a COVID-19 vaccine clinic to campus on Jan. 13-14, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Gorecki 120 at CSB. Register here for an appointment: https://www.csbsju.edu/forms/4AJI0HJOXF. If students get their booster at this clinic, they will be eligible for the last incentive drawing on Jan. 17.

Masking Status

Into the start of spring semester, CSB/SJU is continuing to require masks indoors and on transportation for all students, employees and visitors (vaccinated and unvaccinated) as a temporary action to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and influenza.

Exceptions to the Temporary Masking Requirement:

  • When seated and actively eating or drinking in dining/events and catering operations
  • Residence hall private rooms
  • Private offices
  • Outdoors

The PPC will continue to monitor and evaluate the need for this requirement using campus COVID-19 and other health data as well as MDH/CDC guidance. We plan to update the campus community weekly.
