Saint John’s University Commencement Ceremony

2 p.m., May 16, 2021
Clemens Stadium at Saint John’s University (shine)
Haehn Campus Center Fieldhouse at the College of Saint Benedict (rain)

Each graduate will be allotted tickets for two guests to attend commencement at Clemens Stadium at SJU. Additional tickets to either ceremony will not be available for any reason, due to capacity limits. The ceremonies will be livestreamed and accessible on the CSB/SJU commencement website.

Guests commit to following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Minnesota Department of Health, and campus guidance related to COVID-19 in place at the time of the event. Masking and social distancing is required at all times on campus, indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status. Please note that a viral test and/or quarantine period may be required for guests traveling from other states or countries. Guests are responsible for knowing the COVID-19 guidance that applies to their own situation.

Guests are expected to stay home if they feel ill and will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival. Guests also commit to following all directions from campus officers and event staff while on campus. Guests who are not able or willing to follow stated COVID-19 protocols will be asked to leave campus.

Ticketing information will be sent to graduates via email in late April. Advance guest registration will be required to claim tickets, and all information must be provided, to facilitate contact tracing if needed. Once a ticket is claimed, it is non-transferable and valid for one use only.

Non-ticketed guests will not be allowed to gather at or around the stadium during or after the service. In addition, guests will not be allowed to gather in public spaces on either campus, due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Many campus buildings will be closed on May 15 and 16, to prevent clustering and gathering.

Please note that food and beverage will not be available to outside guests to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University on May 15 and 16. We invite guests to bring water bottles to campus and to plan to visit a restaurant in one of the nearby towns.

The ceremonies will take place outside at Clemens Stadium. Please dress appropriately for the weather, for navigating bleachers and for walking on turf. Please do not wear heels. Attendees may want to wear sunglasses for portions of the ceremony. Graduates should plan to remove their sunglasses before receiving their degrees.

In case of rain or other inclement weather, one or both commencement ceremonies will be held in the Haehn Campus Center Fieldhouse at the College of Saint Benedict. Announcements about a change in venue will be made by 6 AM CT on the day of the event. If a ceremony is moved to the Haehn Campus Center Fieldhouse, no guests will be allowed to attend in person due to capacity limits. All tickets for that ceremony will be voided. Guests may view the livestreamed ceremony on the CSB/SJU commencement website.

These plans are subject to change due to shifting public health guidance and protocols, so please monitor our communications and the CSB/SJU commencement website for updates. All of us at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University are working to make the commencement ceremonies joyful and memorable events, and we thank you for your partnership in making that possible.

Masking:
  • Please see https://www.csbsju.edu/covid-19/health-and-safety/masks for more information about masking requirements on campus. All guests to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University are required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth, at all times, indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Filtered valve masks are not permitted on the CSB and SJU campuses. Due to the exhalation valve, this type of mask can propel germs, including COVID-19 viral particles, and therefore does not protect the community. Neck gaiters and bandanas are also not permitted. Recent research has indicated that these types of face coverings are less effective in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 than cloth or disposable masks.
  • Guests with a malfunctioning face covering should see a member of the Commencement staff for a replacement.
  • Guests not in compliance with the mandatory face covering policy will receive a verbal warning followed by potential removal. The safety of our students, guests and staff is our priority and adherence to our health and safety policies is non-negotiable.
Social Distancing:
  • Please see https://www.csbsju.edu/covid-19/health-and-safety/social-distancing for more information about social distancing requirements on campus. All guests to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University are required to adhere to social distancing expectations, at all times, indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status.
  • All students, guests, and staff are required to practice proper physical distancing when moving about Clemens Stadium. Signage, Public Address announcements and other messaging will help establish and enforce six (6) feet of distance.
  • All guests must remain in their assigned seats before and during the ceremony. No one may leave their seat to take pictures.
  • The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University have developed a limitedcapacity seating plan utilizing “pods” to maximize guest comfort and safety. Each pod is exactly one (1) or two (2) contiguous seats and is properly physically distanced from other pods in all directions. Please do your part to maintain pod integrity throughout the ceremony.
Health Screenings:
  • If within the 14 days preceding the event, you have tested positive or presumptively positive for COVID-19, experienced any COVID-19 related symptoms or been in direct contact with or in the immediate vicinity of any person who is confirmed or suspected of being infected with COVID-19, please stay home and notify your health care provider.
  • All gates will have a COVID-19 health screening form prominently displayed; guests will be required to give a verbal confirmation of “no” to screening questions before they are allowed entry.
  • Should a guest begin to feel unwell while on campus, they should notify a staff member immediately; appropriate facilities and resources are available as needed.
Contactless Entry:
  • Guests must enter Clemens Stadium at the gate and time listed on each ticket. Please plan to arrive at your assigned arrival time, to help reduce congestion at the entrances.
  • At all gates, signage will establish and enforce proper physical distancing. We ask that all guests please stand with their seating “pod” while awaiting security screening.
Contactless Exit:
  • Please wait to be ushered out of the stadium. Commencement staff will assist along all exit paths.
  • Guests must exit the venue via the gate listed on each ticket. The gates will remain open to facilitate proper physical distancing while exiting the venue.
  • Signage and other messaging will help establish and enforce six (6) feet of distance.
Digital Ticketing:
  • All Commencement tickets will be delivered digitally via email, and contactless ticketscanning technology will be utilized at all gates.
  • For quicker entry:
    • Access your ticket(s) through the HomeTown app or emailed pdf, or print your ticket(s) prior to arriving.
    • Transfer each ticket to an individual in your seating “pod” prior to arriving.
    • If using the HomeTown app:
      • Pull up your mobile ticket via the HomeTown app prior to arriving at the security screening.
      • Ensure your mobile device is charged and the brightness on the phone is turned up as much as possible.
  • If you are having difficulty accessing your ticket(s) on your mobile device, please ask for help from Commencement staff.
  • Guest names and contact information will be collected when graduates register for tickets to the ceremony. This information is required, to facilitate contact tracing. Once tickets are claimed, they are non-transferable and valid for one entrance only. Please do not attempt to duplicate tickets for use by multiple guests.
Accessibility Accommodations:
  • Accessibility accommodations are available for guests who request them. Please direct questions and requests for accessibility accommodations to [email protected].
  • The Commencement ceremonies will have ASL interpretation for those who attend in person. The livestream will include closed captioning.
