Assignments can be used to: 

• Assess how well students are achieving course Outcomes
• Set up online submissions that can be quickly graded in the SpeedGrader
• Grade online as well as student work submitted “on-paper”
• Create differentiated assignments for sections
• Set up peer reviews
• Grade Discussions, either by the whole class or student groups
• Open Quizzes for a limited amount of time
• Record attendance
• Create ungraded activities that align with course Outcomes
• Assess submissions with moderated grading and multiple reviewers

Keep in mind the following when creating any kind of Canvas Assignment:;

• Instructors can set a due date for Canvas Assignments. Canvas Assignments without a due date will be categorized as “Other” in the Calendar and on the Syllabus page.
• Instructors can place Canvas Assignments into Assignment Groups and choose to weight final grades.
• Points can be assigned to any Canvas Assignments except non-graded assignments. 
• Instructors can set an “Available from” date that will determine when students have access to a Canvas Assignment.
• Instructors can set an “Until” date that will determine when students can no longer submit an Assignment or take a Quiz.
• Once a file has been uploaded as a submission, files cannot be deleted from the student’s files. Additionally, file submissions cannot be deleted from the assignment. If a student needs to submit a new file, the student can re-submit the assignment.
