Workshop and Certificate Series

Becoming Community Professional Development Workshop Series and Certificate Program

  • Please note that we have decided to extend our Workshop and Certificate Series throughout the end of the Fall 2019 semester!
  • Individuals who attend five or more workshops and apply this to change some element of their work will be eligible to receive a Becoming Community Advanced Practitioner Certificate with recognition on the Becoming Community website. Please complete the following form before November 8 to receive your Advanced Practitioner Certificate in December: https://www.csbsju.edu/forms/DOG6E7BA5M

Through the Becoming Community grant, our work is about co-creating a community where inclusion is not an end goal but an ongoing process. We aim to provide the members of our community with the tools to create space for all to be heard and for all to thrive.

We seek to create a place where more people can feel authentic, recognized, accepted, and wanted.

We sincerely hope that you will join us in this effort through participating in the new Becoming Community Professional Development Workshop Series & Certificate Program. This series extends the work of the first Mellon grant on inclusive practices and is open to all faculty and staff.

Instead of solely relying upon outside scholars, we have created a professional development series that draws upon the wisdom, knowledge, and expertise of our own colleagues and resident CSB/SJU leaders in the areas of diversity and inclusion. We hope that this series will spur important conversations, mutual sharing, meaningful engagement, and help us all to do better together.

Becoming Community Certificate Program

We encourage all staff and faculty members to attend these workshops. In addition, we will provide recognition for those of you who demonstrate sustained investment in terms of time and engagement. Therefore, individuals who attend five or more of the Becoming Community and/or Human Resources Diversity & Inclusion workshops will earn a Becoming Community Practitioner Certificate

Individuals who attend five or more workshops and provide evidence by the end of the academic year that they have incorporated what they learned by applying it to change some element of their work will be eligible to receive a Becoming Community Advanced Practitioner Certificate with recognition on the Becoming Community website.

These certificates may be documented in your resume/CV or annual review as evidence of your engagement in professional development and, importantly, the certificate itself may be posted in your workspace to serve as a public sign and symbol to students and colleagues of your investment in helping to create a more inclusive community.
