CPT William Bryson

My name is CPT William Bryson (SCSU). Currently, I am serving with the
134th Brigade Support Battalion deployed to Iraq from Aug, 22 2006 to
present, as part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division
based out of Rosemount, MN. Although, I am an Active duty officer my
Active duty unit is OPCON'd to the MNARNG conducting and base defense
force protection mission. Currently, the BCT is responsible for Theater
Convoy Security Operations, Base Defense Operations, Joint Operations
Area Patrolling, and Civil Military Affairs Operations. At the time of
my unit's deployment, the United States military had over 140,000 troops
on the ground in Iraq, and a significant logistical pipeline was
necessary in order to re-supply the troops with everything from food, to
ammunition, to repair parts for vehicles, etc.  With armed insurgents
still at large in the country, it was necessary to provide security for
trucks moving supplies along this pipeline.  This in turn enabled
Coalition Forces to successfully carry out the mission of assisting the
new government of Iraq bring order out of chaos and stand up a new
democracy.  Our role was twofold:  to provide security for these trucks
as they moved on the highways of Iraq everyday; and to ensure the safety
and security of the forward operating base and the surrounding joint
operations area in order to ensure the smooth operation of the theater
security mission and the safety of all soldiers on LSA Adder. It has
been a busy year for us all. Our most important responsiblility is
supporting all the warfighters in theater and return home.
