LTC Todd Guggisberg

I was commissioned from SJU ROTC in 1985 and went on active duty in 1987.  Of some interest, five of us Cadets (King, Portegue, Smyrski, Oehmke and I) stood up the first 'Raiders Detachment' in 1984.  In fact, we came up with the 'Raider' name and the design of the beret flash over a bottle of brandy in a Sag-Town living room.  We competed in the first ever "Ranger Challenge" in 1985, placing behind Univ of Minnesota.  Some of the young studs on the team in 1985 were Hout, Voller, Mullen and a few more highly motivated guys who went on to be dominant nationally in the competition.

I served as a Cavalry officer in 10th Mountain Division and then was branch detailed to Quartermaster.  I served in Alaska and commanded a Main Support Medical Company.  Moving on to 5th Special Forces Group, I served as the Group S4 and then had the opportunity to spend two years in Minnesota as the G4 Advisor to the 34th ID in Rosemount.  I atttended CGSC in 2000 and then back to 10th Mountain as the G4 Plans Officer.  I deployed to Kosovo as the Support Ops Officer for a Forward Support Battalion and finally did a year as the DISCOM S3.  In 2003 I was stationed in The Netherlands with a NATO HQs and deployed to Kabul, Afganistan serving with ISAF HQ.  I assumed command of the Group Support Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group in 2006 and deployed to OEF X in 2007.

It's good to see the cadets of the Fighting Saints are still setting the standard for excellence.
