United States Army Captain Jeffrey C. Bess has been awarded the Bronze Star.  Captain Bess graduated from Cottage Grove Park High School and St. John's University ROTC program.  He was deployed in Iraq for 15 months and is ending a 13 month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The following is a quote from the certificate that Captain Bess received with his Bronze Star:

"This is to certify that the President of the United States of America authorized by Executive Order, 24 August 1962 has awarded the Bronze Star Medal to Captain Jeffrey C. Bess, Task Force Knighthawk for Exceptionally Meritorious Service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan from 09 November to 30 November 2010.  Captain Bess' personal courage and commitment to mission accomplishment in a combat zone, under the most extreme circumstances, greatly contributed to the success of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Captain Bess' performance reflects great credit upon himself, Task Force Falcon, Combined Joint Task Force-101, and the United States Central Command."
