Meet the TAs
At CSB+SJU, we strive to provide a variety of resources to enable student success. One of these resources is our teaching assistants (TAs) and tutors. Eight students will serve as TAs and tutors this academic year.
As a TA, each student works a few daytime shifts, during which they help professors with class preparation, special events, and other projects. Most TAs also work one evening per week as a tutor in our homework lab, which is open from 7-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The department actively seeks out TAs who are excellent in the classroom, strong communicators, and active on campus. The TAs have an average GPA of over 3.90, and all eight of them have either internships or full-time jobs lined up.
Lauren Pfeffer is a junior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, who is currently studying in London. In addition to being a TA, she works with the CSB Residential Life Office and is involved in Bennies in Business and Benedictine Friends. She will intern with Deloitte this coming summer in their audit practice. “I love solving problems with numbers,” Lauren commented. “I am excited to return to campus in the spring and engage with first-years about their questions regarding classes, the internship process, and anything else they may want advice on.”
Nate Loxtercamp is a junior from Melrose, Minnesota, which is a half-hour drive up I-94 from Collegeville. Nate is a star on our golf team, leading his team to the MIAC team championship and winning the MIAC championship as an individual. “I like studying accounting and finance because it will be useful after college and helps me understand how the world's businesses operate,” Nate explained. “I like being a TA because it allows me to help and meet fellow CSB+SJU students.”
Sydney Rohrer is a junior from Woodbury, Minnesota. She is one of the most involved people on campus, participating in the marketing club, Bennies in Business, Square One, and the Alpha Kappa Sigma Service Sorority, in addition to working both with our department and the Residential Life office at Saint Ben’s. This past summer, Sydney worked for Best Prep and was the emcee of their Minnesota Business Venture camp held on the Saint John’s campus. Next summer, she will be working at Deloitte as an audit intern. She will also study abroad in London this spring. “I like accounting because it gives me the opportunity to solve problems, work with others, and understand the financial side of business!” Sydney exclaimed. “Being a TA is so fun because I get to meet a variety of students and try to convince them to become accounting or finance majors.”
Cole Swisher is a junior from Plymouth, Minnesota, who enjoys intramural basketball. This summer, he will complete an internship with EY in their audit practice. When asked what he enjoys about accounting, Cole replied, “I am interested in business and looking at the numbers behind a company’s performance.” When asked what he likes about being a TA, Cole responded, “I enjoy being a TA because it allows me to teach others what I have learned in previous years.”
Ethan Berndt is a senior from Sartell, Minnesota, who is also minoring in music. In his free time, he plays intramural basketball, works out, runs long distance, listens to music, travels, hikes, and supports Minnesotan sports teams. Ethan studied in London this past spring and interned in Deloitte’s tax department when he returned to the United States. Why does Ethan like accounting and finance? “I enjoy solving problems with numbers, and accounting allows me to apply those skills to real-world business settings.” Why does he like being a TA? “I have always enjoyed helping other people explore what opportunities they may pursue in accounting.”
Maggie Rothstein is a junior from Chanhassen, Minnesota. She transferred to Saint Ben’s as a sophomore and has loved the experience. On campus, she is involved in intramural volleyball and walking club. This summer, she will work as an audit intern for Deloitte. When asked why she likes accounting, Maggie said, “It is like solving a puzzle and can be very fun when you understand it!” When asked why she likes being a TA, she said, “It is rewarding to meet new students and help them succeed.”
Lloyd Young
Lloyd Young is a senior from Bloomington, Minnesota. He is a star on our cross country and track teams, earning All-American honors this fall. After graduation, Lloyd will work at PWC in their tax department. “I like accounting and finance because the majors offer a realistic approach to the inner workings of the world,” Lloyd explained. “I like being a TA because helping students understand the material is rewarding.”
Cole Brown
Cole Brown is a sophomore from Maple Grove, Minnesota. He is a linebacker on our football team and can often be seen cheering from the front row at Bennie basketball games. In only his third semester at Saint John’s, Cole received an internship offer with a major CPA firm for the summer after his junior year. Cole has tremendous enthusiasm and was asked to become a tutor given consistent stories professors would hear about Cole helping his peers and younger students with their homework. Cole wanted to become a tutor because he “loves working with people and helping my classmates with their accounting courses.”
