First Recruiting Event of the Year: CPA Firm Meet and Greet!

The CSB and SJU Accounting and Finance department does not wait long to get internship and job opportunities in front of our students. During the second week of classes, we hosted what we expected to be a small Meet and Greet with CPA Firms. The event was targeted at juniors and seniors who are hunting for internships and jobs. Since many of our juniors and seniors have already locked down a job or internship, we told the firms not to expect more than 30 students. We expected perhaps six firms and a total of 12 representatives to attend.

Imagine our surprise when 50 representatives from 14 firms descended upon Collegeville!

Because of the high turnout, our students had personal and tailored conversations with numerous potential employers, comparing opportunities and cultures at the firms. These conversations will lead to jobs and internships, as our department generally ensures full-time employment for all students who are ready to begin after graduation.

Notably, most of the representatives are alums of our department. They knew this event wasn’t one where they would connect with a lot of students, but they were happy to make the 70-minute drive from Minneapolis, as they love any reason to come back to campus. They also enjoyed that we provided them with free pizza from our locally famous Gary’s Pizza!

Next up is Numbers Night on October 25th. That event will NOT be small: about 300 students and 50 firms and companies will come to campus and recruit students majoring in accounting, finance, math, business, economics, and other majors who enjoy working with numbers.

We like to think that we give our students the best of both worlds: a tight-knit community in which to attend college, but unparalleled connections to the Twin Cities business community!
