The Data Science major is an interdisciplinary major, jointly administered by the Computer Science and Mathematics Departments. This major is effective with the 2022-2023 Academic Catalog. Students majoring in Data Science may not minor in Data Analytics.
This Data Science major is designed for students who are interested in learning to apply computational and statistical tools for modeling and simulation as well as knowledge discovery from data across many areas. Students who complete this major may choose careers in business, industry, research, or education in which they model and analyze data, build data solutions, discover new knowledge from data, and aid in decision making processes. They will be able to work collaboratively and bring mathematics and computer science to bear on data-focused problems of interest across varied disciplines. Students in this major are strongly encouraged to complete a minor in another data- oriented discipline.
