German Studies

Acceptance to Major Requirements

Course Requirements:  GERM 212, GERM 324 or 325, at least 28 credits from the following 4-credit courses:  GERM 330, 333, 337, 342, 345, 349, 350, 356, 357B, 357H; GERM 399 Senior Capstone (2 credits)
Minimum Grade and/or GPA for required courses:  grade of C or better & 2.0 GPA
Minimum Cumulative GPA:  2.00
Other Requirements:  Courses taught in Austria that may count: GERM 301 (2), 315 (4), 316 (4), 360 (4); 8 credits from the following may be applied: ART 350 (Austria) (4), PHIL 321 (Austria) (4), POLS 341 (Austria) (4), COLG 385 (Austria) (4), HIST 344 (on campus) (4); At least half of the credits required for your major, excluding supporting courses, must be in CSB/SJU course work.
Unconditional acceptance to major: At the time of application, the student (1) has earned at least a C (2.00) grade point average for all coursework completed and for all coursework completed in the intended major, including GERM 212 and (2) is on track to take one 300-level course in German by the end of the spring semester of the student’s sophomore year and to enroll in at least one upper-division course in German Studies in the fall of their junior year.
Conditional acceptance to major: The Languages and Cultures Department Chair may, at their discretion, admit students to the major who do not meet the criteria for unconditional acceptance. Such students may proceed with current registration, but their subsequent continuation in the major will be contingent on meeting expectations stipulated by the Chair.

Major in German Studies (38 credits)

Required Courses:

212; 324 or 325;  16 additional upper-division credits (may include up to 8 credits in English from the list below); 399.

Major in German Studies/Secondary Education (38 credits)

Required Courses:
Same as concentration in German Studies.

Minor (20 credits)

Required Courses:
212; 16 additional upper-division credits (may include up to 4 credits in English from the list below).
