Family Needs During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Work Adjustments
Faculty and staff guidelines for submitting work adjustment requests due to childcare needs are below. The chair of the FFPP, Rachel Melis, is happy to serve as an anonymizing inquirer for anyone who wants to find out more about work adjustment or health accommodation requests before initiating a personal request.

K12 and Working Parents
We recognize the challenges our working parents face due to the uncertainty of K12 operations in the coming year, as well as the corresponding impact to childcare and extracurricular after-school activities. Staff with concern about the ability to perform their job responsibilities are encouraged to speak with their supervisor or an HR representative regarding their needs; Faculty should speak with their Department Chair and Dean of Faculty. We will be as flexible as possible in supporting family needs balanced with managing operations and service to students.

Work Adjustment Requests for Parents of K-12 Students:
Faculty who have K-12 children can apply for a work adjustment that would allow them to work remotely on days when their children are not at school. Just as is the case for faculty with medical accommodations, faculty with a work adjustment will still be required to teach a synchronous, hybrid course (in which some students are in the classroom and others are participating remotely) during their scheduled class time. The request for a work adjustment will be made to the Dean of the Faculty via a Forms Manager link. Only the Dean of the Faculty has access to the information. The Dean of the Faculty will review the form, communicate with the faculty member regarding any concerns/issues, finalize a plan, and inform the faculty member’s chair of the work adjustment (without sharing any details with the chair). Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
A dependent care FSA allows you to set aside a portion of your salary pre-tax to pay for dependent care expenses from licensed day care facilities, licensed pre-school and after-school programs, in home care services, and special day camp expenses. Visit the HR Intranet site for further details.

These local child care options are often used by CSB/SJU faculty and staff:
KIDSTOP is a school-age (K-6) child care program located at 14 schools in the St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids-Rice, and Sartell-St. Stephen school districts, as well as STRIDE Academy Charter School and Athlos Academy. KIDSTOP is offered immediately after school ends until 6 p.m. The program is also offered during some school holidays and during the summer.
