The Pat and Jerry Mische Family Peace Studies Scholarship

The Pat and Jerry Mische Family Peace Studies Scholarship was established in 2010 by Dr. Patricia (Pat) Mische, a CSB Alumna.  The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize and honor College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University Peace Studies Majors for their academic and volunteer work related to peace, justice and ecological integrity. The recipients are selected during the spring semester of their junior year, with the scholarship awarded during their senior/final year at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. The Father Lawrence Schmidt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Offers need based awards to CSB/SJU students majoring in Peace Studies. 

The Marilyn Schmit Peace Studies Scholarship

Offers need based awards to CSB/SJU students majoring in Peace Studies.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Offers need based awards of up to $5,000 to students who wish to study abroad. Students underrepresented in study abroad programs are specifically encouraged to apply.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship

Need based scholarships of up to $6,000 for college students involved in building the movement for social and economic justice.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation Peace Internships

The Fellowship of Reconciliation is offering Peace Internships in four U.S. locations (Nyack, NY; San Francisco, CA; St. Paul, MN; and Washington, DC) for people committed to peace, justice, reconciliation and nonviolent social change in an interfaith context. The positions are for 11 months. Mentorship, housing, living stipend, health benefits, four weeks vacation and great co-workers provided.

The Freeman Fellowship

An opportunity for students who intend to work for demilitarization. The fellowship is based in Washington, DC, and pays a $1,500 stipend plus health insurance. The Freeman Fellowship enables a young activist to develop the hands-on organizing skills, experience in creating resources and campaigns, decision-making ability, and contacts useful to pursing a career in the peace and social change movement.

The George J. Mitchell Scholarship

Scholarship that pays for one year of graduate study in Northern Ireland. Twelve Scholarships are awarded each year. Scholarship winners must exhibit superior levels of academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

Grandmothers for Peace International: Barbara Wieder and Dorothy Vandercook Memorial Peace Scholarship

Grandmothers for Peace International awards at least one $500 scholarship to a high school senior or first-year college student who is committed to peace.

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

Offers an opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with a public-interest organization. Fellows undertake many tasks including writing, researching, and organizing. The fellowship is offered twice yearly, and lasts six to nine months. It provides a small stipend, health insurance, and travel expenses to Washington.

Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program

This scholarship intends to combat discrimination in the media. Awards of up to $10,000 are given each year to self-identified gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender high school seniors or undergraduates who intend to pursue a degree or career in journalism.

The Patrick Stewart Human Rights Scholarship

The Patrick Stewart Human Rights Scholarship offers unique opportunities for students to gain practical experience in the field of human rights. Amnesty International USA awards these scholarships to student activists for summer internships or other short-term human rights projects. Ranging from $300 to $1,800, scholarships can be used for travel, materials, and other expenses.

The Phillips Scholars Program

The Phillips Scholars Program provides six $14,000 scholarships to support the development and implementation of a self-designed service project that address unmet needs in Minnesota communities, and to help scholarship winners pay for school. College sophomores from Minnesota are encouraged to apply.

Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship and Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

Provides undergraduate and graduate funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service.

Udall Scholarship

Eighty Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded to sophomore or junior students studying environment related fields, or Native American or Alaskan students studying fields related to health care or tribal policy.

The Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation for Peace & Justice Scholarship

Scholarship for students who demonstrate a commitment to peace and justice. Applications are available at the External Scholarship Programs office.

Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice:

A year-long full-time salaried fellowship at Families USA in Washington, DC. The fellowship focuses on health care advocacy.
