Acceleration Minnesota, Inc. – Twin Cities, MN                                ON-GOING
Acceleration Minnesota is a state of the art training facility dedicated to making athletes better.  The organization has thousands of athletes focusing on speed development, agility, explosive power and strength.  The organization is seeking interns wanting to gain experience with all acceleration training techniques.  The intern will gain hands-on experience in the following areas: speed training sessions, hockey training sessions, strength training and other skill specific sessions on various sports.  Once an intern is competent and comfortable in the training skills areas, they will lead athletes through training sessions.  Interns will adjust protocol according to skill, ability and conditioning while being responsible for charting notes for each athlete.  The intern should be at junior standing, majoring in one of the following areas: kinesiology, health fitness, exercise science, sports medicine or biomechanics.  A minimum of a 200 hour commitment is required for the position.  A $500 stipend is available upon completion of hours.  To apply, contact the individuals below to through the organization’s website at

Chris Carter’s  FAST Program – Coral Springs, FL              ON-GOING

This internship program (unpaid) began in 1997 and provides a full-time 12-week, 480 hours/40 hrs per week training experience.  Skills that interns can expect to learn during NFL Combine season at the FAST Program include, but are not limited to:  (1) understanding and implementation of speed training techniques, (2) performance measurements for 225-lb bench press text, 40-yd dash with 10- and 20-yd split times 20-yd shuttle (pro agility test), 60-yd shuttle, 3 cone drill (L drill), vertical jump and broad jump, (3) strength training program design, (4) functional and sport-specific drills, (5) balance and stability work (6) understanding and applying the biomechanical analysis of athletes.

Qualifications:  Must have knowledge of anatomy, exercise physiology and kinesiology, a strong work ethic, strong communication skills, desire to pursue a professional position in the performance enhancement field.  Successful progress towards BA degree in Exercise Science or related field.  Preferred Qualifications:  Certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or a nationally recognized certification (ACSM, NASM, USAW).  Competitive high school, Division I, II or II playing experience, experience with training athletes.

Gottlieb Health & Fitness Center – Melrose Park, IL               ON-GOING

Gottlieb Health & Fitness Center is now accepting resumes for their Internship Program. Student Intern positions are available for the fall, spring, and summer terms. Responsibilities may include fitness testing, personal counseling for members, marketing, working on incentive programs, assisting in cardiac rehab Phases III and IV, assisting in strength and speed conditioning programs, as well as other special projects. Interns will be working with both Bachelor and Master degreed Exercise Physiologists. This is a year round internship.

Opportunity Services – Red Wing, MN                                 ON-GOING

Opportunity Services has summer intern positions available coaching individuals with disabilities. We have programs in Anoka, Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Stearns and Washington counties. The positions are full-time M-F with daytime hours. This is a paid position.

Skyhawks – Minnesota and Wisconsin                                      ON-GOING

The Skyhawks is the largest provider of sports programs for kids and is looking for teachers, coaches and college students interested in teaching young athletes (ages 4-14) the rules, techniques, and strategies of the following sports: soccer, golf, baseball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and flag football.  Summer hours go from 9-3p.m. or 9-noon Monday through Friday.  Pay range is between $8-$12/hr and depends on qualifications. Opportunities are available within the Twin Cities area, Hudson, WI, and Rochester.  Programs begin the week of June 9th and end the week of August 18th. Ultimate Speed, Inc. – Jupiter, FL – New and Ongoing

Description:  Located along the southeastern coast of Florida, the Ultimate Speed program utilizes both on-field training, and scientifically advanced speed-specific training, via high speed treadmills, plyometrics, and resistance training.  They focus on preparing athletes for competition through specialized sport-specific training targeting not only overall performance, but injury prevention as well.

Responsibilities:  Interns will learn to educate athletes and coaches using the application of proper sprint-training mechanics, plyometrics, basic strength training principles, treadmill technology, running gait evaluation processes, performance evaluation procedures, and will maintain facility management and business strategies.

Qualifications:  Must have junior standing with college, working towards a degree in exercise science related field, current First Aid/CPR certification, current membership in NSCA, NATA, ACSM is highly recommended, and 480 hours (40hrs/wk for 3 months)

Duluth Area Family YMCA – Duluth, MNThe Duluth Area Family YMCA is offering a diverse internship opportunity this upcoming fall, spring, and summer semesters for students interested in health and fitness fields. The intern will have the opportunity to have rotating shifts while working personally with each Physical Department Director.  Directors will provide administrative, programming, assessment and member service opportunities within the area. The Edge Sports Training Centers – Minnetonka, MN

The Edge Sports Training Center’s mission is to improve performance and reduce the athletes’ chance of injury.  The organization offers a professional level of training to junior high, senior high, college and professional athletes.  The Edge is currently looking for interns to be involved in a variety of different activities to maximize their overall learning experience.  The intern will lead warm-up drills, agility rills, speed workouts, and weight training workouts.  The interns are required to have completed their sophomore year of college and have maintained a minimum of 2.5 GPA.  Also, the interns need to be pursuing a degree in an exercise science, kinesiology or related field.  Interns must commit to 12 weeks starting June 1, 2004 through August 20, 2004.  Compensation of $10 an hour is offered with this position.   Interns will be scheduled for 20-35 hours a week.  Contact Justin Ryan via email or phone by May 21, 2004 if interested.

It Figures – St. Louis Park/Richfield/Bloomington, MN

It Figures is a small women’s only fitness facility in St. Louis Park, MN.  The facility is offering an opportunity for an intern who is interested in promoting health and exercise among women with varying exercise needs.  Prospective students must have excellent interpersonal and writing skills, should be working toward a degree in a health related field. Little Earth Community Partnership (LECP) – Minneapolis, MN

The key goal of the LECP organization is to promote the health and wellness of American Indian families residing at Little Earth.  Qualifications for this opportunity include: interest in American Indian and/or low-income children’s health issues and experience with children and knowledge of children’s physical, motor skills and social development needs. The intern will develop, implement, and evaluate a six-week physical fitness program for youth (ages pre-K through high school) who live at Little Earth. National Collegiate Athletic Association – Indianapolis, Indiana

The NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Program is offering a 12 month, on-the-job learning experience for ethnic minority and female college graduates pursuing a career in athletic administration.  Applicants are able to request their top three areas of interested from the following groups, administrative services, broadcasting and communications, championships, education services, enforcement services, governance, and men’s and women’s basketball.  Selected interns will be assigned a mentor to assist in their career development during the 12-month period, which begins June 2004.  This is a paid position with an application deadline of January 28, 2004.

Prevention First, Inc. (PFI)– Minneapolis, MNPFI, the leader in work site low back injury prevention, is looking for motivated students to complete an internship at one of their many sites across the U.S. PFI’s HealthyBack program is a supervised exercise program that strengthens the back muscles through brief, specific resistance exercise on specialized machines that isolate the lumber spine. They are looking for someone with: 3.0 GPA or better, self-motivated, excellent communication skills, and interests in resistance training, health science, corporate fitness, and/or other related fields.


The SUPERVALU internship program is a supervised learning experience for the student with equal opportunity for the performance or observation of administrative and clinical procedures.  SUPERVALU is currently looking for a health and fitness intern.  This intern would participate in the following: instruct exercise and weight training classes at least 2 per week, nutrition and weight loss programs, recreational sports teams, design personal exercise prescriptions, observe sports and occupational physical therapy, and advertise massage therapy program.

Tastefully Simple is looking for a wellness intern to help them achieve their goal of wellness education.  This intern would assist in developing Tastefully Simple programs, help to implement these programs and activities, help maintain these programs, assist in managing the Tastefully Simple wellness center, perform research, and maintain department files.  Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to keep information confidential, a motivation to help others, good people skills, and a strong background in anatomy and physiology.  Applicants working toward a degree in the health and wellness field or working towards becoming a certified personal trainer with knowledge of CPR are preferred.

Women’s Sports Foundation – Meadow, NY
