Center for Ethical Leadership in Action

In November 2016, the College of Saint Benedict received the largest gift in our history: a $10 million commitment to create the Center for Ethical Leadership in Action.

The vision of this gift will permanently transform the Saint Ben’s experience by providing opportunities for high-impact experiences that go far beyond the classroom: Internships. Mentoring. Speakers. Workshops. Research. Service learning. Fellowships. Study abroad.

These opportunities transform students into leaders.

Each of the CSB students selected for the 2018 Ethical Leadership in Action Program will receive $5,000 for full-time summer internships.  Students will also receive a living stipend for summer living expenses.  

During the 2018 summer, the Ethical Leadership in Action Fellows have full-time internships positively impacting their ability to be an ethical leader. In addition to the fellowships, Fellows will meet as a group for a MANDATORY training from approximately May 21-25, 2018 for seminars with the director and other program guests. 

ALL MAJORS welcome to apply!  All CSB students enrolled in 2018-2019 may apply (no May 2017 graduates).  Students will work full-time (40 hours/week) for a 10-week period of time, beginning late May/early June and continuing through early to mid-August (tentatively June 4, 2018 – August 10, 2018).   Students may elect to register for and earn internship credits.  Financial need will be considered in the selection process.

The application deadline is November 26, 2017 (January 15, 2018 for students currently abroad). Interviews will take place in early-December. For students abroad Fall 2017, interviews will take place by the second week of February 2018. All interviews will be completed by mid-February with notification before Spring Break 2018.

Students will be selected based on the following items:

1) A statement of intent explaining student interest and type of work they desire, including potential placement sites.  Your statement of intent should explain in what way you believe the sites you have included and/or the type of work you hope to do will positively impact your ability to be an ethical leader, and how this relates to your goals.   *Please note, internship locations are not limited to MN.

2) A resume indicating relevant paid and unpaid work/volunteer experiences, relevant class or other training, conferences or workshops attended, honors and awards, public talks or media involvement, and other skills such as languages or computer skills;

3) Two letters of recommendation (please send link to form to those submitting recommendations); 

4)  Essay exploring your service and leadership experience (upload in application); 

5)  Current unofficial transcript;

6)  Interview with director of the fellowship (following review of application, students will be notified)
