Coach Jim Smith will retire on June 30.

After 51 seasons of coaching in Collegeville, Coach Jim Smith will retire on June 30. He is Minnesota’s all-time leader for wins and 14th in NCAA college basketball history. The search for his replacement will begin immediately.

In addition to his duties as basketball coach, Smith is an associate professor of physical education and has coached golf (1981-93), cross country (1965-73) and track (1966-73) at Saint John’s. He served as the Johnnies’ athletic director for 10 years from 1994 to 2003.
