Private College Scholars at the Capitol

Minnesota’s Undergraduate Research Community on Display

Join us on 21 February 2008, for the Fourth Annual Private College Scholars at the Capitol.  This event has now attracted the attention of corporate donors and is vitally important to maintaining the public presence of Minnesota’s liberal arts colleges and universities.  The Minnesota Private College Council is a primary sponsor of this event, which is organized by statewide committee of faculty.  Each college selects and sends its own students and posters, and we depend on local on-campus contact persons to send our state’s very best undergraduate student scholar/researchers.

In 2007, forty students and their faculty advisors presented posters describing their research on:  the psychological stress experienced by student volunteers from Concordia College, Moorhead, who aided Hurricane Katrina victims; economic models of the effect that US rice subsidies have on developing countries; and the effect of human capital on Minnesota’s economic growth since 1950; and many other topics.

Registration is $40 per poster, which supports our production of an abstract booklet, lunch for the students, and rental of the equipment.  Each college is responsible for the production of poster and transportation of students and faculty mentors to the event.  For 2008 we anticipate that each participating school will send two posters to PCSAC.

Please join us in this landmark event to celebrate the research and scholarly excellence of our Minnesota undergraduate students.  Their research has already contributed greatly to the quality of life in our state.
