Authorization codes (7 digits) are required for long distance calls. Authorization codes are sent to on-campus students through email during August. Please call our office at extension 5566 if you need this code or if you need to verify this code.
The authorization code which has been assigned to you will remain with you for the entire time you reside on campus. This code is a seven digit confidential code which you will use to place long distance and toll free calls. For your protection you should memorize this authorization code and keep any paper copy of this code in a safe place. You are responsible for all charges that are generated through the use of your code. In case of loss or theft, it is your responsibility to notify Telecommunication Services immediately. You will be held responsible for any charges that occurred before notification to Telecommunication Services. Once our office has been notified, you will be issued a new authorization code.
A detailed listing of your long distance calls will be sent to you on a monthly basis. The total cost of your monthly long distance charges will be applied to your student billing account. Student billing account statements are mailed around the 15th of each month. Payment can be made on or before the 10th of the month at the Student Accounts Office, Main Building 231.
The College discourages the use of your cellular phone when driving. However, if the need arise, these guidelines will help you use your phone in a safer manner.
If you have any questions related to the Cellular Phone Safety Guidelines, please contact Colleen Lommel in the Telecommunication Services Office at 5566.
Collect calls placed to the College will not be accepted by the operators. If a collect call should pass by the operator and you accept the call, there will be a $10 collection fee plus the cost of the long distance charges. You ARE, however, allowed to place collect calls from campus.
As in the past, you cannot make third number billed calls to be billed to your campus phone.
Calling card calls can be placed from campus as long as the calls are not billed back to your on campus phone number. There is no fee for this service.
Presently, there are three fax machines available on campus for your use. The numbers and locations for these fax machines are:
The cost for sending a fax is $1.00 for the 1st page and $0.50 for each additional page. For international faxes, you will also be charged for the cost of the call. The cost to receive a fax is $0.50 per page.
The charge for sending or receiving a fax will be billed to your Billing Account.
NOTE: Inappropriate Phone and Voice Mail Use.
It is a crime under both Minnesota and Federal laws for anyone to make obscene or harassing phone calls. No member of the College of St Benedict community shall use obscenities in a greeting or a message in the telephone system. Inappropriate use of the telephone system including voice mail will result in disciplinary action.

If you receive unsolicited calls, do not provide personal information, such as telephone number, social security number, credit card number, pin, or passwords. It is not necessary to give out this type of information.
The caller may be someone who claims to be connected with your credit card issuer and ask to “verify” your account number to make sure you’re protected. They then use this information for fraudulent purposes. Your real credit card issuer doesn’t need your account number, it already has it. If you have to provide the number, look up their number and call them back.
If you happen to give out personal information, call CSB Security at 5000 immediately and report the incident.
