*Please Note: Many of these features are only active on faculty and staff phones.
INTRODUCTION
This user's guide describes all the features and explains the operation of the STE (Standard Telephone) as used with the College telephone system.
TOUCH PAD
The touch pad digits are used to activate the system features, and the desired feature code digit must be preceded by the Asterisk (*) or the Pound Sign (#) as indicated.
SWITCH HOOK BUTTON
All feature codes must be initiated from Dial tone; if you are in conversation, the Switch hook button is used to obtain Dial tone. Pressing the Switch hook will result in the word "Enter" being repeated 3 times, followed by Dial tone. After hearing "Enter" once, the desired feature code can be entered.

RING PATTERN
The system has different rings to identify the type of incoming call.
- One Ring: Internal System Call
- Two Rings: External System Call
- Three Rings: Priority System Call

VOCABULARY
- "ENTER": a Switch hook Flash has been satisfactorily performed.
- "HELD": action is taken to obtain dial tone and a call has been left on hold.
- "FORWARD": action is taken to obtain dial tone and the extension has been call forwarded to another extension.
- "CONFERENCE": action is taken to obtain dial tone and a conference has been placed on hold.
- "INVALID": an "Invalid" feature code is dialed.
- "VOICE MESSAGE": a message has been left in your voice mailbox.

EXTERNAL CALLS
To Place A Call Outside The System:
- Lift handset. Dial tone returned.
- Key in access code (9). Dial tone returned.
- Key in desired number.

INTERNAL CALLS
To Place A Call To Another System Station User:
- Lift handset. Dial tone returned.
- Key in extension number.

HOLD
Place A Call On Hold:
- Depress Switch hook button. "Enter" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone.
- Press" *4 " . Hold is invoked and dial tone returned.
- Note: You have the option of placing another call or hanging up the handset. The word "Held" is repeated 3 times each time you try to obtain dial tone. To alternate between calls repeat the above steps.
Retrieve A Call On Hold:
- Lift handset. "Held" is repeated 3 times. Dial Tone.
- Press" *4 ". Call is retrieved.

TRANSFER - UNANNOUNCED
Transfer A Call To Another Extension Without Announcing The Transfer:
- Depress the Switch hook button. "Enter" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone.
- Press" #1 ". Present call is held. Dial tone returned.
- Key in extension number.
- Hang up handset. Call is transferred.
- Note: If the extension to which you are transferring the call is busy or unanswered, the call will return to your extension with a priority ring or to the attendant.

TRANSFER - ANNOUNCED
Transfer A Call To Another Extension And Announce The Transfer:
- Depress the Switch hook button. "Enter" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone.
- Key in extension number. Announce call to person who answers.
- Hang up handset.

3-WAY CONFERENCE
The 3-WAY CONFERENCE call can be used to introduce a transfer to both parties or to set up a conference call between three internal parties.
- Depress the Switch hook button. " Enter" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone.
- Key in extension number (include access code of "9" for outside number). Announce call.
- Flash Switch hook and call is conferenced.

CONFERENCE CALL
Allows user to join up to 7 parties on 1 call. It is recommended that no more than a total of 4 parties be external. At least one system user must remain in the conference call at all times.
Add Parties To An Existing Conversation:
- Depress Switch hook. "Enter" is repeated 3 times.
- Dial tone.
- Press "# 1". Present call is held.
- Dial tone returned.
- Key in number. Announce conference.
- Depress Switch hook. "Enter" is repeated 3 times.
- Dial tone.
- Press "#1". All three parties are now connected.
- Repeat steps to add up to six (6) parties.
Called Number Is Busy or Unanswered:
- Hang up handset.
- Lift handset. "Conference" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone is heard.
- Press "#1". You will be connected with the original party or conference.
Put A Conference On Hold:
- Depress Switch hook. "Enter" is repeated 3 times.
- Dial tone.
- Press "#1". Hang up handset.
Retrieve A Conference From Hold:
- Lift handset. "Conference" is repeated 3 times.
- Dial tone.
- Press "#1". You are connected with the conference.
- Note: While on hold, the other parties may continue conversation. Each station user on the conference has the ability to add parties to the conference up to a total of 7 parties per conference, of which only 4 are recommended to be external calls.

CALL FORWARDING - ALL CALLS
Allows you to send all your calls to another extension.
Forward Your Calls:
- Lift handset.
- Press" * 3". Confirmation tone.
- Enter extension number calls will be sent to.
- Confirmation tone returned.
- Hang up the handset. Calls are forwarded.
- Hang up handset — Calls are forwarded.
Cancel Call Forwarding:
- Lift handset.
- Press "# 3". Confirmation tone required.
- Hang up the handset.
- Note: When an incoming call is intended for the originating extension, a short ring is heard on the telephone. This will alert you that your calls are still forwarded. The extension to which the telephone is forwarded is the only extension which can place and transfer calls to the originator.

ABBREVIATED DIALING
This feature allows a personal directory of frequently called internal or external numbers. Assign each number a 1 digit reference code from (0—9) depending upon data base design.
Store Or Change An Abbreviated Dial Number:
- Lift handset.
- Press " * 7 * ".
- Key in 1 digit reference number. Confirmation tone returned.
- Key in number you wish to store. Confirmation tone returned.
- Hang up handset.
Place An Abbreviated Dial Call:
- Lift handset.
- Press "*7".
- Key in 1 digit reference number. Call is placed.
- Note: Abbreviated Dial numbers can be an extension within the system, or any allowed outside number. If the number to be stored is outside the system, you must also store the outside access code which is (9).

CALL PICKUP
Allows any extension within an assigned CALL PICKUP GROUP to answer a ringing phone within the call pickup group.
To Pickup Any Ringing Extension:
- Lift handset.
- Press "# 4". Ringing extension will be retrieved on your extension.
- Note: Any attempt to pickup a call not in your pickup group will result in a reorder tone.

CALLBACK - BUSY
Allows you to leave a CALLBACK Message. If you place an internal call and the extension you are calling is busy, the system will automatically call you back when the called extension is free.
Leave A CALLBACK - BUSY Message:
- Depress the Switch hook Button. "Enter" is repeated 3 times. Dial tone.
- Press" * 5 ". Confirmation tone returned.
- Hang up handset.
- Note: If there is not answer at your extension, the system will cancel the call back.
Called Extension Is No Longer Busy:
- You will receive a priority ring.
- Lift handset. Call will be placed.
- Note: If there is no answer at your extension, the system will cancel the call back.

LAST NUMBER REDIAL
The system automatically remembers the last external number dialed and allows that call to be easily replaced.
Redial Last External Call:
- Lift handset.
- Press " # 9". Last external dialed number redialed.
