What do I do if I can't work a shift?

If you cannot work a shift that you are scheduled for, you must send a request out to all of the TAs asking if they can work for you.  Someone is often more willing to work for you if you offer to trade shifts with them.  You should send this request as soon as you are aware of any conflict you may have with your work schedule.  If nobody agrees to work for you, you MUST notify the Head TA, John Miller, and the professor if applicable.  If it is a night shift, you should let the person working before you know, so they can lock up the lab when their shift is over.

What do I do if I have a problem with a student?

Read the lab rules section on conflicts.

The lab is "dead".  Can I go home?

If nobody has been utilizing the lab for a long time, you may leave 15 minutes early.  This only applies to TAs working the last shift of the night.  Under NO other circumstance are you allowed to close the lab early.

The door is not locked, and I want to go home.  What do I do?

You must call security and have them come to the lab and lock the door.  You may NOT leave before the door is locked.  When you start your shift, you should check to make sure all of the doors to the lab are locked.  If they are not locked, it is a good idea to call and let security know more than 15 minutes before the end of your shift.  That way, you won't be stuck waiting for them after your shift is over.
