Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of
- the history, development, major themes, and texts of the Bible;
- the major Christian doctrines, their historical development, and how these are understood in contemporary theology;
- the Church’s sacramental theology and liturgical practice;
- the theology of ministry;
- the central tasks of ministry: Catechetics, pastoral care, social justice, administration, preaching, and liturgy;
- social and cultural dynamics as they relate to theology, faith, and ministry.
- Students will demonstrate the capacity to
- critically read primary theological texts within their historical context;
- foster community prayer and worship;
- teach and transmit the Christian faith to God’s people;
- interpret and preach the Bible in relationship to contemporary life;
- care and guide Christian people and communities in the life of Christ;
- administer organizations and their resources with a sense of Christian stewardship;
- lead communities of faith in just responses to social issues.
- Students will demonstrate a commitment to maturity in Christian ministry through
- personal prayer and spiritual counsel;
- participation in the communal and liturgical life of the Church;
- Christian dignity and witness, especially in regards to ministerial ethics;
- respect for people from a variety of religious faiths, lifestyles, and cultures;
- continued development of professional and ministerial skills;
- life-long learning about the Christian faith.
YTM Outcomes for MA Cohorts
- YTM MA cohort students will gain competency in mentoring youth through their service-leadership project.
- YTM MA cohort students will experience a faith community of learning while establishing a network of relationships with faculty, staff, cohort members, members of the monastic community, counselors, and high school youth.
- YTM MA cohort students will complete an MA in Pastoral Ministry with a Concentration in Catechetical Leadership.
- YTM MA cohort students will develop a portfolio that meets the certification standards approved by the USCCB Commission on Certification and Accreditation for certification as a lay ecclesial minister.

- Use service-leadership skills to develop and implement a parish project.
- Grow in their understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and in their empathy toward the poor and marginalized.
- Experience and lead a faith community of service and see themselves as agents of change.
- Take time to discern God’s call and consider vocational careers in theology and ministry.
