Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry

The Saint John's School of Theology•Seminary's Youth in Theology and Ministry (YTM) program is an exciting new approach in theological education for youth ministers, directors of religious education, and high school religion teachers to earn a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry.

The Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry is designed to prepare men and women for pastoral service in parish and social ministries. The degree grounds the student in the essential aspects of the theological tradition and requires the student to develop those skills and capacities essential to an area of ministerial interest.

The Youth in Theology and Ministry MA program also includes mentoring two Catholic high school age leadership youth from your parish or school through the 13-month YTM youth program.  At the YTM Summer Institutes the high school youth study theology, do community service, pray, and experience a community of faith and learning that is transformational.

  1. Earn a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry in four years, while continuing to work full or part time in ministry.
  2. Take four graduate theology courses per year:  two courses each summer, one fall semester, and one more spring semester.
  3. Feel the support of learning with a cohort of youth ministers, religious education coordinators, and high school religion teachers.
  4. Experience nationally recognized faculty.
  5. Promote leadership, theological reflection, and vocational discernment among your high school leaders.
  6. Integrate your theological education with a strong ministry formation program.
  7. Develop a portfolio that meets the national certification standards and competencies for lay ecclesial ministers endorsed by the USCCB Commission on Certification and Accreditation and the six dioceses of Minnesota.
  8. Receive a highly subsidized tuition rate ($1,500 per year) through scholarships and grants from Saint John’s School of Theology Scholarship Program and the Lilly Endowment, Inc. YTM grant.

A New YTM MA Cohort Begins Summer 2008
