Conversatio: Lifelong Formation for Ecclesial Ministers
As a center of theological learning and ministerial formation, Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary is constantly alert to the changing state of parish life. While our degree programs equip and sustain persons for effective church ministry, over the past ten years we have launched a variety of learning opportunities tailored to the needs of continuing education and formation of pastoral ministers. These programs create networks of support, even friendships, among peers in ministry and help clergy and other ministers become resources to one another as they continue to grow as disciples and as leaders of faith communities.
Conversatio provides opportunities for ecclesial ministers to gather as they seek a reshaping of the mind and heart according to God's plan for us. Conversatio morum, a Benedictine charism, is often left untranslated because it is hard to find English words that are adequate.
It is in this spirit that we offer our Conversatio retreats and programming. Taking time for reflection is an essential element for re-invigorating passion for ministry and for helping create healthy, vital parish communities. This challenge of renewal, which we frame in Saint Benedict's notion of conversatio, draws support and encouragement as pastoral leaders gather for prayer, reflection, and collegial conversation.
