Praying with Imagination: A Retreat with The Saint John's Bible

Saint John’s School of Theology·Seminary, Saint John’s University
July 27-August 2, 2008
at the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research

The “Praying with Imagination” retreat engages church ministers, artists, and others seeking an intense experience integrating imagination and prayer through art. Through prayer and artistic expression, the retreat deepens a sense of creativity and wonder in our work and ministries.

Each day, participants practice visio divina, a form of lectio divina, using images from The Saint John’s Bible. They also engage the arts through book-making, which combines various forms of writing with creating visual images. Kathleen A. Cahalan will facilitate the prayer portions of the retreat, while Peggy Thompson and Judith Lang Main will serve as artistic leaders.

During the week there are also opportunities to interact with artists from Saint John’s Abbey and the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University and to view the art collections of the Abbey and University.
