Areas of Teaching and Research
  • Fundamental Moral Theology
  • Virtue Ethics

  • During my first year, I'm largely focusing on my teaching, but I do have some hopes for my scholarship. My doctoral dissertation argued that the moral thought of John Henry Newman -- particularly his notion of conscience -- should be understood within the tradition of virtue ethics. While I don't anticipate publishing the dissertation as a whole, I do hope that a chapter or two of it can be adapted for a peer-reviewed article or two. I also hope to do some work in the area of liturgy as an agent of moral formation. That is an area of interest to me, and it should feed my Benedictine soul. I also appreciate the opportunity to nourish my teaching and scholarship with active pastoral ministry. I think theology is done best that way for me.

  • Dissertation: “Waiting for Saint Benedict: A Comparative Analysis of Newman and Hauerwas on Virtue Ethics”
