Considering Vatican II Fifty Years Later
Kristin Colberg, Ph.D.
In October of 2012 the Church will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. This celebration will be followed for three years by other momentous anniversaries honoring the passage of key documents, landmark agreements and ultimately the conclusion of the council itself. These anniversaries provide a fitting opportunity to reflect on the achievements of Vatican II and its on-going formation of the Church. This session will engage (1) certain critical developments of Vatican II's decress, (2) contemporary scholarship on the meaning of the conciliar documents, and (3) people's own experiences of the changes that the council brought to the Church.

A typical Theology Day consists of registration and refreshments, followed by a period of conversation/presentation/lecture. The conversation then continues as participants are given a chance to continue their discussions with one another. Morning presentations are followed by a complimentary lunch for all participants, and most evening sessions also include a meal.
There is no fee for Theology Day, but registration is required. Free-will offerings and gifts to support the mission of the School of Theology·Seminary are gratefully accepted.
