Since graduating in May 2017, Sister Karol has spent time studying in Belgium, visiting Rome for three weeks to tour churches and see friends, and going on a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes before returning home to China. Upon her return she began six months of preparing for her final vows. This preparation included studying the rule of her community, hearing lectures on the Bible, prayer, and Vita Consacrata (an apostolic exhortation on “the consecrated life”), concluding with a month long retreat.

Sister Karol professed her final vows on May 30, 2018 in Jilin, China alongside her younger biological sister who also professed her final vows that day. In attendance were members of her family, her community, and even a couple of Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary alumni.

During her years at Saint John’s, S. Karol writes that her experiences- including the academic challenges she faced, brought growth in her relationship with Jesus. Sr. Karol plans to use her education to provide assistance in the ongoing development of knowledge and skills that the people of her diocese need. Sr. Karol will also be training lay people and helping them “understand that we each, as members of the church, have a duty to actively participate in the mission of the church.”
