Catholic Parishes of the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities

Bookmark and Share

January 1, 2018

The church in the United States is changing, some areas are exploding, others are contracting. Church governance has changed, there is more involvement of laypeople and far fewer priests and sisters, and an increasing number of ethnicities as well as Masses celebrated in Spanish or other languages. As well there is an increase number of parishes without a resident pastor.

Explore this research with demographer Chuck Zech, Ph.D., Villanova University’s Center for Church Management and Business Ethics and the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA). Pursue conversations with colleagues about guiding principles to increase involvement in the parish and increase giving.
