Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary offers a three-week Holy Land Study Tour featuring a three-credit graduate course, Biblical and Archaeological Sites, taught by Fr. Michael Patella, OSB, professor of New Testament. The course can be taken for credit or audit.
In the spring of 2009 we broadened the scope of our trip to the Holy Land. In addition to exploring biblical and Christian sites in Israel, Palestine, and Sinai, we also traveled to the early Monastic communities of the Egyptian desert, specifically the Caves of Saint Anthony and the monasteries in Wadi Natrun. We also had time to visit the Cairo Museum and the pyramids.
Saint John's has a long history of offering study abroad programs of various lengths in the Holy Land, the Early Christian World (focusing on the regions evangelized by Paul), and occasionally in Rome. Locations and lengths of study have varied over the years, subject to political situations and the curricular needs of students.
The 2010 Study Tour will begin in Israel on May 11 and will depart from Jerusalem on May 31.
