SJS to vote on by-law amendments tonight

CHANGES WOULD ALLOW SENATE OVERSIGHT OF BOARD DECISIONS VIA 2/3 APPEAL PROCESS
3/10/2008

The Saint John’s Senate will vote tonight on proposed by-law amendments allowing any decision made by a subsidiary board or committee, including funding decisions, to be appealed to the full senate by a vote of 2/3. The change is intended as a form of checks and balances on the current system, in which decisions of small boards cannot be appealed except to the board making the decision. The motion, being set forth by Club Auditor Colman Silbernagel, needs 12 votes to amend SJS By-Laws. It is a response to delayed decisions regarding the recent funding of the USA TODAY Collegiate Readership Program (the program is now in place for the remainder of the semester).

Note: The by-law amendment was adopted (12-5-0). Amendment Text... After the original vote was called into question on Apr. 14, 2008, the by-law was amended again (13-2-0) Text...
