SJS co-hosts 5th annual Charity Poker Tournament

  The 5th annual Charity Poker Tournament was held Nov. 17 in the Alumni Lounge. The event, co-sponsored by the CSB Senate and the Saint John's Senate (SJS) attracted over 80 participants and collected 5 boxes of non-perishable food items, which were donated to the St. Joseph Food Shelf. Winners received an iPod touch or a one-night stay at Grand Casino Mille Lacs.

SJS meets in Alumni Lounge

The Saint John's Senate (SJS) has moved its meeting location to the Alumni Lounge in the Quadrangle. The new location allows for an arc-style meeting set-up, and increased gallery seating. It also provides for better video-recording for televised broadcast. Formerly, the SJS met in Sexton 200.

Johnnie Day a time for pride

The Saint John’s Senate (SJS) hosted Johnnie Day on Oct. 2, 2007. As part of the yearly Homecoming Spirit Week, Johnnie Day featured a celebration at the Tommy Hall basement’s Rat Hole, and sales of the popular yearly “Johnnies” T-shirts at Sexton Commons. With over 1,200 shirts sold on the first day, Oct. 2 marked the most popular Johnnie Day since its inception. Many students commented on the high quality of the shirts. More...

Brendon Murn wins special election to Activities & Allocations Board

Newly elected Club Auditor Brendon Murn secured 104 votes, while runner-up Brent Mergen garnered 63 and Patrick Cook claimed 41. Murn accompanied the previously elected SJS members on the annual fall goal-setting retreat immediately following his election.

SJS congratulates CSB Senate on Women's Month

4/1/2007 - The Saint John's Senate unanimously endorsed a resolution congratulating the CSB Senate on their successful execution of Women's Month 2007. The resolution, authored by Regent Nicholas Truso, recognizes the importance of promoting equality between women and men in all facets of society. SJS to implement Constitutional changes next term
3/26/2007 – The Saint John’s Senate passed a resolution that would delay implementation of Constitutional changes until a new senate term intervenes following General Elections. The motion was proposed during an executive session at Monday’s SJS meeting, and is intended to ease the transition between senate terms. The Constitutional changes in question, which renamed 7 positions and switched the boards of 2 positions, had been ratified on Mar. 22, 2007. General elections are set for April 13, 2007. All students are encouraged to vote!

SJS executes "from a JOHNNIE" campaign
3/13/2007 - PR Representative Dave Norine explained that the SJS's recent "from a JOHNNIE" campaign was an effort to create a stir on campus among CSB/SJU students. The campaign maintained the secret identity of JOHNNIE, who was responsible for delivering free prizes and gifts to students in class, mailboxes, and on the weekends. SJS investigates campus recycling
3/12/2007 - Board Auditor Kurt Sorensen reported on investigations regarding the current status of recycling on the SJU campus. The committee, formed in response to rumors that recyclables are mixed in with refuse when waste is picked up from SJU, has implemented a series of "stake-outs" to monitor waste pick-ups. Results from the study are forthcoming, which Sorensen characterizes as a "surprise."
