3/19/2007 - AAB Chair Joe Daly announced Mar. 19 that new cable channels will be added to the SJU package. These include FX, Spike, NFL Network, Game Show Network, Discovery Health, ABC Family, ESPN-U, and Nickelodeon. Stations are added by subscribing to various tiers on the university server, Dish Network. Currently, Discovery Health is the only new channel that has been updated. Daly said the other changes will take effect over Easter Break.
The new channels were added in response to a student survey conducted by the SJS in late 2006. Daly said that the AAB, as steward of the Student Activity Fee, is charged with providing Cable TV that reflects the students' wishes while responsibly allocating student dollars.
With the additions, the legal news station CourtTV and the music station CMT were both dropped from the university's package. As of January 1, 2007 Dish Network is not offering Court TV because of a dispute between Dish Network and Court TV. On February 8th, 2007 CMT was dropped on channel 59 because CMT raised its subscription fee from $.20 per subscription, per month, to $2.20 per subscription, per month.
The updated cable guide can be viewed at http://www.csbsju.edu/cabletv/default.htm.
