Statement on Virginia Tech shooting

4/16/2007 - The following statement will be delivered to the student body by President Kevin May at the Saint John's Senate meeting at 9:15 pm tonight in Sexton 200:

This morning a gunman opened fire in a dormitory and a classroom building at Virginia Polytechnic University in Blacksburg, VA, in what we now know is the deadliest school shooting rampage in the history of the United States.  It has been reported that 32 people, including the gunman, have been killed, and 29 more injured.

As students, we cannot help but imagine what it would have been like if we had been on the Virginia Tech campus this morning, or if an incident like this had happened on our own college campus.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, their families, and the entire campus community of Virginia Tech as they begin the long process of healing.

Please join me now in commemorating the deceased and all impacted by this tragedy by observing a moment of silent prayer.
