Community Good Neighbor Policy

As residential liberal arts colleges, the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University educate students on the importance of living in a community and understand the obligations of civic responsibility.  We expect our students to understand and accept their rights and responsibilities as members of the CSB/SJU community and as participants in the activities of surrounding communities (e.g. Saint Joseph, Avon, Saint Cloud).  Student conduct as listed in the Bennie Book  or the The J-Book is expected behavior within our educational communities and surrounding civic communities. Therefore, students should expect to be held accountable for their behavior both on and off campus.  Sanctions for violating the laws or standards of the community in which they reside or live may include restitution, community service, substance use assessment, public apology, probation, suspension or expulsion from the college.  When the behaviors of the students interfere with the actions or directions of local law enforcement; medical, fire, or rescue personnel or equipment; the maintenance of private and public property; or threatens the safety of members of the community; the students may be prevented from participation in public college events or activities (e.g. commencement) and be subject to college disciplinary actions.
