What if I don’t pay my advance room payment on time?

If you cannot make the payment by the deadline you should stop by the Campus Life/Housing Office and request a postponement of payment.  Students who request postponements will receive housing selection times.  If you do not make a payment and fail to request a postponement, you will not be able to participate in the room selection. Students who show up at the room selection without a selection slip will be asked to return when housing selection is over to pick a room.

How are housing selection numbers assigned?

Selection numbers are based on the credits you have completed fall semester in addition to those you are attempting spring semester and the year you enrolled at SJU.

Where is room selection being held?

  • The Apartment Selection will be held in Sexton 200, March 20.
  • Block Housing Assignments will be held in Sexton 200, March 14.
  • The General Selection will be held in Quad. 264, March 27 and 28.

When should I arrive at the room selection?

You should come to the selection about 10 minutes before the time stated on your housing selection slip.  If you are signing up with a group of students, you should come to the selection on the earliest time in your group. Everyone in your group must present his selection slip at check in. Remember to bring your student ID card too.  It is best to come a little early.

Should I have optional housing plans in mind?

Definitely come with some alternative housing plans.  It’s possible the apt. or room you want will already be chosen by the time your selection time is called. You should have several choices in mind in case your group has to break up. If all the apts. have been chosen by the time your selection time is called, you will receive a selection time for the General Room Selection, March 27 or 28.

Do I have to sign a residence agreement (lease) at the selection?

Yes.  We require everyone who picks an apt. or room at the selection to sign at the selection.  However, if you are unable to attend the room selection in person, you have until March 16 to sign your lease at the Campus Life Office, Sexton 122.  Students currently studying abroad will sign leases in the fall.

What happens if we don’t have enough people to fill an apartment?

You must have the correct number of occupants to sign up for an apt/room at selection. All groups signing up for an apt. must have a senior majority. Class standing will be verified at the selection.  If your group does not qualify for an apt. you will be asked to leave the apt. selection and the seniors in your group will be assigned a new selection time for the General Room Selection, March 27 or 28.

Can I live with a student transferring or readmitting to SJU?

If the transfer/readmit has been accepted and enrolled by March 16, you can select him as a roommate.  However, you must notify the Campus Life/Housing Office, by March 16 that you want to live with a transfer, so we have time to verify the student’s enrollment.

What if I want to live with someone currently studying abroad?

Students currently studying abroad were asked to designate someone to go through the selection process for them before they left on their programs.  Please contact Barb Frank, Housing Coordinator and find out if you are a designee.  If you were not designated, you can have the student contact Barb by email to confirm that he wants you to pick a room for him.

What if a sophomore wants to live in an apt. with juniors and seniors?

If a sophomore is over 21, he may request permission from the Campus Life/Housing Office, to live in an apt. with returning seniors.  However, this is decided on a case by case basis.

What if I have a special medical condition that requires special housing?

We try to accommodate all requests for special needs.  However, you will be asked to present a letter, from your doctor, stating that you need special housing for medical reasons.

What if I cannot make it to the room selection at my assigned time?

You can designate someone to go through the selection process for you or ask a Campus Life/Housing representative to pick your housing.  If you designate someone to pick your housing, you must notify Barb Frank, the Housing Coordinator, in advance and give the designated student your room selection time.  Remember, if you do not pick your housing yourself, you must be satisfied with whatever your designee picks for you!

What is the campus housing requirement at SJU?

All freshmen, sophomores and students on academic probation are required to live on campus unless they are living at home with their parents.

Do I sign up for housing if I am studying abroad in the fall?

We encourage you to make arrangements to take someone’s place in the spring that will be moving out at the end of fall semester.  If you do this, you should come to room selection with the student or group of students (if you are going to live in an apt. spring semester) and sign the residence agreement for spring.

What if I am studying abroad in the spring?

You should sign up for fall housing, but note on the residence agreement that you will only be in the apt./room fall semester.
