In 1997, in addition to being named Clemens Stadium, the SJU football and track stadium received a much-needed facelift with the construction of a new press box, concession area and an all-weather 400-meter track. Included in the facelift was the addition of a combined total of 5,000 seats to the home and visitor sections. Sprinturf replaced the natural grass football field in 2003.

Sports Illustrated recently rated the natural bowl of Clemens Stadium one of the top 10 venues in America to watch college football.   The stadium is the home field of college football’s all-time winningest football coach, John Gagliardi.  Most notable in Gagliardi’s career are his four collegiate national championship titles and his recent induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
