Constructed in 1989, the Art Center was designed by Hugh Newell Jacobsen & Associates of Washington, DC.  The Art Center contains:

• the Stephen Sommers Digital Video Studio and postproduction editing lab
• printmaking studio, with facilities for woodcuts, lithography, and intaglio prints
• sculpture studio and foundry
• photography studio with facilities for color and black-and-white photography
• drawing and design studio
• the Alice R. Rogers and Target galleries, which exhibit work by faculty, student, regional, and national artists each year
• auditorium for art history and gallery lectures
• nine private student studios, which are awarded to individual art majors on a semester basis
• offices for the CSB/SJU art department faculty
• two artist studios for visiting artists

The other half of the art department is located in the Benedicta Arts Center  on the campus of The College of Saint Benedict, which contains facilities and studios for computer art, photography, painting, ceramics, drawing, design, and jewelry, as well as the Gorecki Gallery and Gallery Lounge, classrooms for art history, and offices for CSB/SJU art department faculty.
